What's the best way to store biltong?
Because we don't use preservatives to prevent mould, the biltong is sensitive to humidity, so if you're not going to eat it soon, we recommend taking it out of its plastic packaging, and putting it in the fridge or freezer.
For best results we recommend freezing because it stops the fat from oxidizing and therefore keeps the product tasting as fresh as possible.
Do you use any nitrites or nitrates or preservatives in your products?
Absolutely not. All our products are preservative-free.
Please note that some of the biltong spices that we sell on the website do contain preservatives but we do not use them in our products. All our meat products (biltong, dry wors, snapsticks etc) use our own spice formula which is free of preservatives.Â
Are your products gluten free?
Our dry wors is gluten free.
We use soya sauce in our biltong formula which contains a tiny amount of wheat flour, however, when we tested our products for gluten it came back as none detected. The test results are below, you'll see that the testing threshold is 2.5ppm. For many people this is good enough.Â
Please note that the exception is the Smokey BBQ flavour which contains BBQ sauce which has gluten.
On our website we also sell various biltong spices, some of which may contain gluten. Please note that we do not use these spices to make our biltong: we have our own proprietary formula.
